This is a 32 week course which takes it's members through the entire bible. "Disciples" asks it's participants to participate in three or four hours a week of independent study and preparation. The class itself meets as a small group one night a week for 2 1/2 hours. The classes are held in parishioner's homes. This study climaxes in an overnight retreat. All in order to learn how to more fully be a disciple of Jesus!
Week after week, by pondering what the passages mean, what significance they have in daily lives, with the help of two leaders; participants gain a clearer insight into God’s covenant with his people and what that relationship entails.
Small groups allow for the exchange ideas about what are the most important aspects of each week’s lesson. The study manual helps to capture impressions and questions from the readings, gives a synopsis of the bible teachings for that week, and shows us how they apply to being today’s disciple. The weekly video presentations review the gist of each lesson from the perspective of the guest speaker.
Disciples class is a big commitment but enrichment of faith as well as the group support, prayers, questions, explanations, thoughts, and stories shared are some of the reasons to continue coming back each week to learn more.
A recent Disciples class, when asked by Fr. Ed what they got out of the Disciples class, offered the following insights:
“Learning so much…it was neat to read so much of the bible. The class
could bring it to life. Some of it we didn’t understand and could ask
about. We could find out what it means to us.”
“Thanksgiving prayers for this course! I enjoyed all the reading. I hope to
continue to carry on a daily reading relationship.”
“It kept us from TV and that’s good! We’re reading together and that’s
a gift. We met as a community—being together and offering each other
support.”
“I can tell how much it has increased my faith in what I believe--it has deepened
it considerably. I can relate to what I’ve learned and the importance of it. It
shows more in my life and the relationship becomes more real.”
